The Viola Claire is Hagen’s ambitious performance model, created to deliver world-class viola sound at an outstanding value. Designed to reveal the true depth, warmth, and projection of the viola, this instrument is suitable not only for advanced students but also for viola majors seeking a reliable, expressive performance instrument.
Handcrafted using traditional German lutherie techniques, the Viola Claire is built from premium German Alpine spruce and maple naturally aged for over 20 years. After construction, each instrument is air-dried at room temperature for a minimum of 12 months before varnishing, eliminating the harsh, tight tone often found in new instruments and allowing the wood to produce the rich volume and refined clarity characteristic of German Alpine tonewoods.
Finished with a hand-applied natural resin golden-yellow spirit varnish in an antiqued style, the Viola Claire combines visual elegance with exceptional tonal maturity.
Crafted with precision and care for stability, resonance, and long-term durability.
